In early 2021, I assembled a Nirvana rarities boxset much like the officially-released With the Lights Out that I felt better illuminated the group through their outtakes and work tapes than that set had managed.

Nirvana: Sound of Dentage is 57 songs spanned over three discs, covering 1986-1989, 1990-1991, and 1992-1994, respectively. I've tried to use the best possible sources available for each track, and the most interesting early rendition of each song. I have lightly edited each song for listenability and continuity and then mastered everything to play at a roughly equal volume.

Many of the songs featured were taken from sources previously uploaded to the Internet Archive. These sources are linked in the readme text file included with this item. Dynamic range calculations, set explanations and liner notes, and custom artwork are also included.

[2024 note: this boxset has been updated with a few better sources and an extra track. If you downloaded it previously, download it again. You'll know you have the new version if the readme starts with a 2024 notice and "Forgotten Tune" is on the third disc with each successive song incremented (eg "Closing Time" is track 11, not 10 like on the previous one).]
